New site, jonex.info

March 18th, 2006

Now my new site is fully set up, I just need to move over some content from the old jonex.1go.dk site.

Edit: Now the main content is integrated into this site.

TurboGears site facelift

October 16th, 2005

EDIT: Note that they now have changed to another design, not made by me.

I have a great interest in the Python programming language, but for web development there has been a need for better frameworks, something that can compete with Ruby on Rails from the Ruby world. Luckily there are nowadays, none that has achieved 1.0 yet though. Django and Subway have been along for some time now. And lately we have seen a new contender in the scene, TurboGears which, like Subway, builds mostly on ready made components. That is the reason TurboGears is expecting to release a 1.0 quite soon, there’s just some finishing touches left.

But that isn’t why I’m mentioning it here, there are already lots of sources of Python and Web development information, I’m not planning to become yet another. The reason I’m mentioning it is that the homepage of TurboGears 0.5 wasn’t very nice looking, with graphics bugs in some browsers.

Being a person that can’t stand ugliness I asked the author of TurboGears, Kevin Dangoor if I could rewrite it. He wouldn’t give any guaranties that he’d use it but agreed that something should be done about it. Said and done. With input from him and the mailing list I improved on the page. Keeping some feel from the earlier page(Kevin wanted it that way) I remade it in code, and in design with much less code and no tables for positioning at all. It is now used for the site with the exception of the splash page. Unlike what people say about IE’s bad Box model, you don’t need any ugly hacks to make it work, you do however sometimes need to solve problems a bit differently than what’s apparent at first.

Sweclockers page widening fix

May 23rd, 2005

Greasemonkey is an excellent extension for Firefox that makes it possible to customize any website as you want with the help of Javascript. I made a script to handle widening problems with the Sweclockers Forum, it is available on my brand new Greasemonkey page.

Get some MP3-files over here

March 31st, 2005

I programmed a piece of software to get a random selection of mp3-files that you can put on your flash-based mp3-player. Of course it is available for free.

Made a clan-page on request

January 20th, 2005

I designed a cs-clan-site, called skare.nu, mostly for the practice and partly because I got some web space to use in return. Maybe I’ll move this site there instead.

EDIT: They seem to have disappeared from the web, ah well.

New design

October 31st, 2004

I was bored, so I made a better design. And when I was at it, I rewrote all the content too. (Well, I figured it most of it wasn’t read anyway, so there isn’t much left)
